There are many benefits to being a member of the Handknitters Guild.

Members receive a regular newsletter,

may borrow books from the library,
receive 10% off yarn purchases at the Needle Nook
enter competitions
display work in exhibitions
attend promotional events
receive assistance with problems
be involved with like minded people
learn new techniques
hints and tips on improving your work

Membership costs $25 a year, $20 for concession and is due 1st October.

Initial membership also has a once off joining fee of $10

You can join at any of the general meetings or even on the Knit and Knatter day.

We are also looking at creating a new "Family membership" and would love to hear from you how you think this might work best. As changes must be done at the AGM, give us some suggestions before September.

Our library

The guild has an extensive library of traditional and modern knitting and crochet books, plus related art and craft magazines.

All members of the guild are allowed to borrow books free of charge. Visitors may read them but not borrow them.

Our newsletter is brought out every couple of months.

It is available in a print format only and is sent out to all members or can be picked up at the Guild (if you want to save on postage).

We also ask anyone who wishes to have things included into the newsletter, to contact Eric Corbin either via email ( theknitman@yahoo.com.au) or give him your item at the next meeting.

Anything related to knitting, crocheting or even something amusing about life in general is always welcome.

The Handknitters Guild of SA was formed in 1987 and is a group of people who love to knit and crochet. We have 2 meetings a month, on the 1st and the 3rd Saturday, (in the Adelaide suburb of Unley ) to knit and crochet and share both knowledge and inspiration with each other.

We start in February of each year and continue on until December. We are air conditioned! which is important for those summer months.

We have a library available for members to borrow from, a biennial exhibition, (the next in 2012), competitions, regular newsletters for members and friends, workshops, challenges , guest speakers and we regularly attend events for promotional purposes . We welcome anyone interested in knitting to come to one of our meetings, get to know us and then hopefully to become a member.

If you need some advice about a tricky knitting problem or trying to find somewhere to purchase yarn, cant find the pattern, maybe you need an odd ball to finish a project, then give us a call on the mobile phone and see if we can help. If you are into the tech side of things, then drop one of us an email and someone will assist you.

If you have some health issues and therefore unable to complete a project, there are also some members who would love to finish your UFO"s for you.

Maybe you would like a special occasion item made just for you. Some of our members take on consignment work as well.

Meeting times

The Guild meets in the Unley RSL Hall,29 Arthur St, Unley. The building is an old church and it is behind the Unley shopping centre.

First Saturday of the month: general meeting starts at 1pm and is followed by a workshop, guest speaker or show and tell. We finish about 4pm.

Third Saturday of the month: knit and natter starts at 1pm and finishes about 4pm.

Cost: $4 for members ,( visitors are welcome to attend for 4 consecutive times for free) then we hope you will join up as a member. Includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

Please note that there is no Knit and Natter in December and there are no meetings at all in January due to the weather.

One of the guilds major functions is to promote ourselves and knitting to the general public.

So on occasion we will attend events within the community.

What is coming up next for the guild

BI-ANNUAL EXHIBITION 2012

Every two years the guild shows off our best works. This year will be "A small world" and there is sure to be a lots of interesting things on display. We also have vendors selling yarn, books, an extensive array of finished products, a raffle and a trading table. So take note of this date and if there is any further information you would like, then contact one of the committee members listed at the front page
